Benson: Preserving “our democracy

Death of Democracy by gibraltarium

How many times in the past couple years have you heard from some socialist Democrat about the crying need to preserve “our democracy” from all those Americans who have the temerity to disagree with their vision for the future? More times than you can count, I’m willing to bet. It’s like, for them, “democracy” is some sort of secular deity that no one would dare to disagree with. It seems to ruin their whole day when some of us do.

Most who have had the misfortune to have had to attend a public school were never taught the difference between a republic and a democracy. I can’t recall ever hearing the two differentiated, though maybe I did and have just forgotten. School was long, long ago for me.

If you look back in our history, you will find that our founding fathers had no use for democracy. They considered democracy one of the main roads on the slippery slope toward dictatorship. When you hear Nancy Pelosi rant about “preserving our democracy” it’s enough to make one literally cringe. Our country is not a democracy – it is a Constitutional Republic that has certain democratic aspects, but is still far from a pure democracy.

The Pledge of Allegiance is something I have a problem with, mostly because it was written by a New England socialist in 1892 who took a swat at the South and secession with his “one nation indivisible” comment, which I disagree with. But he got one thing right – but only one. He wrote that he pledged allegiance to the flag “and to the republic (not democracy) for which it stands.”

Most of those who prattle about preserving democracy don’t mean the same thing by it that you think it means. Their ardent desire to “preserve democracy” means, to them, that they get to rule over you for as long as they can cling to power, no matter how they have to do it – by hook or by crook – and if it’s “by crook” that’s not a problem for them – they’re already doing that. No one can, with a straight face, claim Slick Willie, his wife, Obama, and China Joe Biden are anything but crooks! And they plan to hang onto power as long as they can, anyway they have to! Stealing elections is no big deal for them. It’s a practice they have honed to a fine art.

I noticed this past week that two states, Colorado and Maine have sought to remove Trump’s name from their ballots for next year’s election on the grounds that he engaged in “insurrection”. That was never proven, nor was he ever charged with such a crime, although the Democratic branch of the Deep State may be planning such an event to take place just before the 2024 election – and 13 other states are planning to try something similar. So, in the name of “preserving democracy” they want to try to remove Trump’s name from the ballot in something over a dozen states, denying Trump supporters by the millions the right to vote for the candidate of their choice!

This is how the denizens of the Washington swamp “preserve democracy.” And if you think it smells to high heaven, you’re right. But they don’t care. For them, “preserving democracy” is all about grasping all the power they can any way they have to! They have the mentality of “Banana Republic” dictators, to whom the common people are sheep to be shorn! 2024 looks like it will be a doozey of a year politically.

So trust in the Lord – and keep your powder dry!
