Ross: Are You Prepared?

Do you think that God cares about what you look like? Do you think He cares if you are rich/poor; if you are a Democrat or a Republican; if you are a famous actor or just some working stiff trying to make ends meet? All God cares about is what is in your heart; whether or not you believe what John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Yet there is more to being a Christian than simply believing that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the Living God; He who offered His life as a sacrifice for our sins; dying on the cross and rising on the third day into glory. Satan not only believes that, he knows that to be true; yet he is still condemned to eternal damnation for seeking to elevate himself above the Most High.

Being a Christian means more than attending church once a week; it is a complete lifestyle change. Jesus is quoted numerous times as calling upon his disciples to Follow Him? There is more to the term ‘Follow me’ than simply parading around behind Him; it involves giving up your past life of sin; your past behavior, your past beliefs, and doing your best to emulate His behavior.

Did Christ care about the fact that the Jews lived under Roman occupation; did He seek to oust the Romans and replace them with Jewish rule? When He said ‘Render unto Caesar those things that are Caesar’s’ He followed that up with, ‘and to God the things that are Gods’ He was not justifying Roman authority; He was telling those who followed Him to not concern themselves with who ruled over them here on earth; their concern was to seek out the Kingdom of Heaven.

Christ did not tell us to be ignorant, or apathetic, He simply told us that our concern should be in seeking to bring about God’s Kingdom on earth. I shouldn’t have to explain this, but God’s Kingdom is not ruled by men, it is ruled by God; and God’s law is the ONLY law we should be concerned with following. We do not have to like what our earthly rulers are doing, but what they do should not be the focus of our concern; and we should not devote ourselves to trying to vote into office people who will do a better job of ruling over us; for only God has the right to rule over us.

Another thing Christ taught us is to love our enemies; to pray for those who despitefully use us. (Matthew 5:43-46) Looking around at what passes for political discourse these days, I don’t see much love between the two rivaling parties; quite the opposite in fact. Not only does this animosity go against what Christ taught us, it takes our focus away from who we should be serving; and it certainly isn’t an institution as corrupt and evil as our current system of government!

People seem to think that government is some intangible thing; something that exists but cannot be touched or seen; that we can only feel its effects upon us. Government is simply a body of men given the authority to pass laws that the rest of us are obliged to obey. That fact is true regardless of whether government is good or bad, or which party happens to be in control of it at any given moment. People only see who sits in the Oval Office, or which party holds a majority in Congress; they do not focus on the system…and the system is what allows both parties to do evil things.

I know that some won’t believe me on that; so let me provide some proof. Roe v Wade stood unchallenged for decades; allowing for upwards of 63 million innocent babies to be slaughtered in their mother’s wombs. During that time we have had both Democrats and Republicans as presidents; and not a one of them attempted to put an end to this evil. How can one claim to be Christian and remain silent while this practice continues? One has to ask, which god are they serving; the God of heaven, or Baal or Molech?

Then of course there is the rampant sex trafficking of young people in this country. Every Christian in this country should be flooding the White House switchboard, and the Congressional mail room, demanding to see the full, uncensored, Epstein files; and demanding that every name on that list face justice. But all we hear is, ‘Oh, you’re not still hung up on that are you? That’s old news.’ I bet you wouldn’t be saying that if it was your child that had been abducted and sold as a sex slave to some government official!

There is a Latin phrase you should make yourselves familiar with, “Qui tacet consentire videtur.” It can be translated numerous ways, but what it essentially means, ‘He who is silent gives his consent.’ As Christians we should be boldly speaking out against such evil; not hiding our thoughts, or voices, for fear of rocking the boat; having the public ire turned against us.

For those who condone such behavior I have but one thing to say, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.” (Isaiah 5:20) And for those who remain silent, supporting the system that does nothing to stop this evil, I have this to say, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” (Ephesians 5:11)

If government, regardless of which party is in control of it, does not uphold God’s law, then that government is, by definition, evil; and you should have nothing to do with it; let alone willingly give your support to it. Yet one look at the polling numbers every election is all I need to see to tell me that people do, in fact, give their willing consent to evil.

We cannot do away with government, but we can withdraw our support for it, and we can stop participating in choosing between the evil people who seek to hold power and dominion over us. In John 17:15 our Lord prayed, “I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” Two chapters prior Christ told His disciples, “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” (John 15:19) Then later, in Romans 12:2, the Apostle Paul writes, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

1 John 5:19 tells us, “We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” You cannot obey God’s law and obey the laws passed by earthly institutions of government as well; especially if the laws conflict; you must choose whom you will serve. In Acts 5:29 we are told which of the two the followers of Christ should obey, “We ought to obey God rather than men.” Christ Himself taught, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)

The Lord told us that we would be hated for His sake, that we would be despised, and that we may even have to give up our lives in obedience to God. But, and this is important, He also told us that, “He who endures to the end will be saved.” (Matthew 24:13)

One final thing that the Lord taught us, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:21-23)

Attending church won’t save you unless you are also following Christ in both His teachings and His example. If you support a system of evil, such as our government, I recommend that you stop. If you are attending a church that does not teach repentance, or a church that teaches things to go against God’s law, such as same sex marriages, I recommend that you find a church that teaches God’s word; not some touchy feely gospel; for 2 Timothy warned of such churches, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

I recommend that people read the entire chapter of Matthew 24, but for those who won’t I will leave them with this, in reference to Christ’s return “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” I would also suggest reading Matthew 25:1-13, for it also teaches us to be ready; for the Lord may return at any moment.

Are you ready for that day? If not, I suggest you get ready; for the signs are all there that the end may soon be upon us. God loves us all, and He doesn’t want to see any of us spend eternity separated from Him. However, whether or not that happens depends entirely upon us; the choices we make right now, right here, while we are still living. Once we die, there will be no second chances. So choose wisely while you still can.
