A public policy analyst says the Biden administration is looking to pull off its most brazen power grab to date.
Under the banner of “preventing digital discrimination,” the Biden administration wants the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to take over the internet, or at least the American service providers that bring it to the public.
Abraham Hamilton III of the American Family Association says until now, the internet has been relatively free of government regulations, but that may soon change. According to the text of Biden’s order, this would strangle the free market.
“For the first time ever, the rules governing the internet would give the federal government a roving mandate … to micromanage nearly every aspect of how the internet functions,” Hamilton details.
Specifically, the new FCC regulations would allow the government to control internet speeds, capacities, latency, data caps, throttling, pricing, and more.
“Let’s be clear – by encroaching upon internet service, what they’re trying to get control over is you and me,” the attorney asserts. “If passed, the FCC would be empowered to regulate every internet service provider’s service termination terms, use of customer credit, account history, [and] credit checks.”
Those who oppose this effort are encouraged to ask their elected officials in Washington to speak with the FCC commissioners on their behalf – and also to send an email urging the five FCC commissioners to reject Biden’s proposed takeover of the internet when they vote on Nov. 15th.
Since multiple lawsuits are bound to be on the way, Hamilton says “it would help the cause of advocating for freedom” if litigators can point to the fact that the American people notified commissioners before they tried to implement this policy and brought to their attention its lack of constitutionality.
