NEW YORK HEALTH OFFICIALS TOLD RESIDENTS TO CONGREGATE IN HUGE CROWDS IN “DEFIANCE” OF CORONAVIRUS
Back in February, health officials in New York told residents to congregate in huge crowds in “defiance” of Coronavirus, a move that could have exposed thousands of people to COVID-19.

New York City Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot posted a tweet on February 9 urging citizens to flock to Chinatown in large numbers to celebrate the lunar new year while suggesting that advice to avoid crowds was “misinformation.”

“Today our city is celebrating the #LunarNewYear parade in Chinatown, a beautiful cultural tradition with a rich history in our city. I want to remind everyone to enjoy the parade and not change any plans due to misinformation spreading about #coronavirus,” she wrote. On the same day, Mark D. Levine, Chair of New York City Council health committee, lauded how “huge crowds gathering in NYC’s Chinatown” was a “powerful show of defiance of #coronavirus scare,” tweeting four images of large groups of people gathered to celebrate the occasion. Chants of “be strong Wuhan!” If you are staying away, you are missing out! were heard.

Those tweets are receiving a fresh backlash of criticism given what has unfolded since. Many of the individuals who showed up for the celebrations were Chinese and could have visited China in the weeks before. Confirmed cases of Coronavirus across New York state surged 38 per cent overnight to 20,875 total cases. There have been 157 deaths. New York is the hardest hit state in the country and, at this writing, New York City accounts for 12,305 confirmed infections. The advice given by the officials was in line with World Health Organization rhetoric at the time, which discouraged the “stigmatization” of Chinese people. Once again, it appears that pandering to political correctness almost certainly worsened the spread of Coronavirus in New York and could even have led directly to people dying. Back in February, leftist officials in Italy were also urging citizens to go outside and hug Chinese people in order to fight racism.

DEMOCRATS BLACKMAIL A NATION IN CRISIS
It’s like telling a patient on life support that he must sign off on gender-neutral restrooms before we agree to connect his ventilator.

As the White House and the Senate try to throw a lifeline to our economy, Democratic leaders want to condition it on signing off on their left-wing agenda. I quoted Maj. Gen. George S. Patton in my column last week: “A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week.” I’m repeating it because it is so relevant to the coronavirus crisis.

No one thinks the stimulus bill the Senate is trying to pass, which Democrats have sabotaged, is a perfect plan. There is something in it for everyone to criticize. But when the house is burning down, the job is to put the fire out as quickly as possible. A momentary delay to look for a better way to do it can result in absolute destruction. As Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell put it: “This is not a political opportunity. It’s a national emergency.” Even calling this a stimulus bill is a misnomer. It is more accurate to call this a bridge loan to ourselves. Anyone who has operated a business understands that a bridge loan makes it possible for you to cross a valley between a difficult situation you are in, providing an opportunity to work through difficulties so you can get to the other side and once again function in a healthy way.

This crisis is the result of shutting down our economy because of an immediate health threat. Economies function as buyers and sellers meet in the marketplace. If you tell buyers and sellers they are prohibited from showing up in the marketplace, everything will collapse. It’s hard to believe that as we try to throw a lifeline to our economy, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and their Democrats want to condition it on signing off on their left-wing agenda: the Green New Deal; tests on gender, race and ethnicity for business; government dictates on how businesses manage their financial affairs and how much they pay their executives. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who has never run a business or met a payroll, wants to force minimum wage when companies are shedding their workforce in order to stay afloat.

Since the nations of Italy and Spain are reeling in the face of the fact they’re been leading the statistics in deaths attributable to the Coronavirus (to say nothing of the obvious connection to the beleaguered home of Roman Catholicism), these predictions now focus attention on Protestant ministry centers of activity, with an emphasis on the soaring infection rate in New York. Obviously, this has already begun as churches across America are now unable to hold large scale events, which will certainly disrupt support levels. Although the ministry is saddened by these developments, Christian Media says there are more events to occur in the near future, which will show an uncanny focus on non-denominational and Protestant oriented Christian ministry sectors. DEMOCRATS SECRETLY DISCUSSING SURPRISE CANDIDATE TO TAKE NOMINATION FROM BIDEN AT CONVENTION
For the better part of a week, former Vice President Joe Biden has been the presumptive 2020 nominee for the left. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, his only remaining opponent, has all but thrown in the towel. Sanders’ campaign has stopped running ads on Facebook, and many of his resources have pivoted toward the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the longtime democratic socialist’s insistence that he isn’t yet bowing out.

But Biden is far from the ideal candidate for the left. He’s old, rich, white, and male for starters, with enough skeletons in his closet to put a cemetery to shame.Young voters despise him, and have begun insinuating on social media that he is suffering from dementia.

The Democratic establishment may finally be taking these concerns to heart, as gossip surrounding a secret usurper has been permeating the mainstream media this week. Democrats are publicly talking about “contingency options” for their July convention in Milwaukee in case the Coronavirus persists in being a public-health threat. But privately, some are also talking about needing a Plan B if Joe Biden, their nominee apparent, continues to flounder.

Some Democrats are openly talking up New York governor Andrew Cuomo, whose profile has soared during the crisis, as a Biden stand-in. Yesterday, a Draft Cuomo 2020 account on Twitter announced that “Times have changed & we need Gov. Cuomo to be the nominee. Our next POTUS must be one w/an ability to lead thru this crisis.” Charles Pierce, the politics blogger for Esquire magazine, wrote a piece headlined “With Two Words, Andrew Cuomo Established Himself as the Leader This Country Needs Now.” He enthused that Cuomo’s news conference last Friday “essentially (shutting) down the economy of his state . . . was a master class in leveling with the public.” Cuomo has already been exploiting his time in the spotlight to attack President Trump, making the transition from the governors’ mansion to the campaign trail all the simpler.

UN: 85% OF NEW INFECTIONS, DEATHS COMING FROM EUROPE AND US
Spain started storing bodies in an ice rink converted to a makeshift morgue Tuesday, as Coronavirus deaths mounted there and around the world, with the World Health Organization warning the pandemic was still in a nascent stage with infections expected to increase “considerably.”

In Madrid, vans driven by workers in protective suits and masks brought bodies to the Palacio de Hielo mall to store at its indoor skating rink until they can be buried or cremated after other facilities became overwhelmed. The Spanish capital last week adapted two hotels to serve as emergency hospitals to help with the overflow of COVID-19 patients. It plans to convert five more, and Madrid’s hotel association has offered a total of 40 of its buildings to be used.

In Geneva, WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris cited a “glimmer of hope” in hard-hit Italy after two days of slight declines in the number of new cases and deaths, while cautioning it’s “early days yet” – and the trend needed to be monitored. In New York, now one of the world’s biggest virus hot spots, authorities rushed to set up the thousands of hospital beds they will need in just weeks to protect the city’s 8.4 million people. The mayor warned that the city’s hospitals are just 10 days away from shortages in basic supplies, while the state’s governor announced plans to convert a New York City convention center into a hospital.

In Italy, Spain and France, the pandemic has already pushed national health systems to their breaking points. In contrast to other European nations, German health authorities offered some hope that the country has flattened the exponential spread of the virus, which has already infected nearly 30,000. Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government approved a massive new aid package to cushion the economic fallout of the outbreak, offering more than 1 trillion euros ($1.1 trillion) to tide small companies and entrepreneurs through closures and to pump capital into bigger companies.

21 MILLION CHINESE CELLPHONE USERS DISAPPEAR IN THREE MONTHS OF PANDEMIC
The official count from China is 3,277 fatalities from 81,171 infections as of Tuesday, but the Epoch Times noted the troubling disappearance of some 21 million cell phone accounts in China over the past three months – an unprecedented decline that hints at more fatalities than Beijing is prepared to admit. In Wuhan, Chinese officials are currently making claims of zero new infections that no one seriously believes.

With that in mind, the Epoch Times thought it was a bit odd for 21 million Chinese cell phones to abruptly disappear, given that cell phone usage has been increasing constantly in China for years, and phones have been touted as an important tool for containing the Coronavirus epidemic. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced on March 19 the number of phone users in each province in February. Compared with the previous announcement, which was released on Dec. 18, 2019, for November 2019 data, both cellphone and landline users dropped dramatically. In the same period the year before, the number of users increased.

The number of cellphone users decreased from 1.600957 billion to 1.579927 billion, a drop of 21.03 million. The number of landline users decreased from 190.83 million to 189.99 million, a drop of 840,000. In the previous February, the number increased. According to MIIT, the number of cellphone users increased in February 2019 from 1.5591 billion to 1.5835 billion, which is 24.37 million more. The number of landline users increased from 183.477 million to 190.118 million, which is 6.641 million more. According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics, the country’s population at the end of 2019 was 4.67 million larger than in 2018, reaching 1.40005 billion.

The article went on to postulate that some of the landlines might have been shut down as a consequence of the Coronavirus quarantines, particularly lines used by shuttered business operations, but the sheer magnitude of the cell phone user decline makes it more difficult to explain. China Mobile, the nation’s largest carrier, reported gaining 3.7 million new accounts in December but then losing over 8 million in January and February, months in which it posted gains of 3.5 million users the previous year. The government is currently requiring citizens to use their cell phones to generate “health codes” so their movements can be tracked and permission to travel can be restricted to healthy individuals, so as U.S.-based commentator Tang Jiangyuan put it, it is effectively “impossible for a person to cancel his cellphone.” “Dealing with the government for pensions and social security, buying train tickets, shopping … no matter what people want to do, they are required to use cell phones,” Tang noted.

The New York Times explained just how heavily Chinese authorities are leaning on those cell phones to monitor their population, and not just for Coronavirus infections: The Times’s analysis found that as soon as a user grants the software access to personal data, a piece of the program labeled “reportInfoAndLocationToPolice” sends the person’s location, city name and an identifying code number to a server. The software does not make clear to users its connection to the police. But according to China’s state-run Xinhua news agency and an official police social media account, law enforcement authorities were a crucial partner in the system’s development. In the United States, it would be akin to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention using apps from Amazon and Facebook to track the Coronavirus, then quietly sharing user information with the local sheriff’s office.

PELOSI’S CORONAVIRUS STIMULUS INCLUDES RETURN OF “OBAMAPHONES,” OTHER UNRELATED ITEMS
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced her own emergency coronavirus stimulus bill on last Monday, leading furious Republicans to argue that much of the proposal contained a progressive wishlist seemingly unrelated to the crisis — including several provisions that amount to a resurrection of the notorious “Obamaphone” program, GOP officials said.

The bill proposed by Pelosi, D-Calif., additionally seeks to eliminate debt held by the U.S. Postal Service, require same-day voter registration, pay off $10,000 in student debt per person, mandate that airlines reduce their overall carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2050, and force federal agencies to explain to Congress how they are increasing their usage of “minority banks.”

And, the legislation would provide for the automatic extension of nonimmigrant visas and restrict colleges from providing information about citizenship status. It would also allocate $35 million to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. “People are dying and all Nancy Pelosi and Democrats can focus on is ripping off the American taxpayer to help pay for their liberal wish list of government handouts,” National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) spokesman Michael McAdams said in a statement. Pelosi, the NRCC pointed out, wants $1 billion “to build on a program expanded by President Obama that provides discounted phone service for low-income consumers.” That was an apparent reference to Title III, Section 301 of Pelosi’s bill, which allocates $1 billion and calls for federal authorities to immediately expand the “emergency lifeline broadband benefit” for every household that contains at least one “qualifying low-income consumer.”

A comprehensive 2017 report from the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that that the “Obamaphone” program, which gave cell phones to poor people under the broadband benefit, stashed $9 billion in private bank accounts and was “rife with fraud,” the Washington Times reported at the time. “A complete lack of oversight is causing this program to fail the American taxpayer — everything that could go wrong is going wrong,” McCaskill said. “We’re currently letting phone companies cash a government check every month with little more than the honor system to hold them accountable, and that simply can’t continue.” The GAO report found that about 10.6 million people have an Obamaphone, but 36 percent of them may not qualify. The audit also concluded that more than 5,500 people were found to be enrolled for two phones, while the program was paying for about 6,400 phones for persons the government has listed as dead, the paper reported. “One of the reasons the Democrats think they will get away with this is they expect the media to be utterly complicit,” Ted Cruz added, noting that The New York Times conspicuously changed its headline three times Sunday evening to describe how Democrats had killed Republicans’ stimulus bill.

On Monday Mike Pompeo issued ‘5 facts’ detailing Iran’s recklessness regarding the virus, including the charge Tehran spread it “to at least five countries,” and on Wednesday the newest charge is that Iran is imprisoning whistleblowers who are trying to the get the true numbers of Iran’s cases out to the public.

Iran was one of the two earliest epicenters outside of China along with Italy, and currently has the sixth highest number of total confirmed Covid-19 cases, but ranks fourth in deaths at 2,077 which have succumbed to the disease. “The regime has imprisoned dozens of Iranians for sharing statistics and forced hospital officials across Iran to falsify the number of cases and deaths,” State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus told the neocon Washington Free Beacon, yet without offering further details. The new allegation comes as Tehran is begging the IMF for $5 billion in emergency funds to help with Coronavirus relief, and simultaneously lashing out at Washington for its unrelenting sanctions regimen. The White House has kept up its so-called “maximum pressure” even as the Islamic Republic’s health system collapses under the strain of 27,000 official reported cases.

“We can be sure that the same regime that lied about shooting down a passenger jet and that still hasn’t revealed the number of protesters killed last November is not being transparent with the number of cases and deaths from Coronavirus today,” Ortagus added, referring to the Ukrainian airline downing tragedy on January 8. The Iranian regime claims the numbers of those infected and dead stand at 24,811 and 1,934, respectively. But the United States and other observers say there are far more casualties. In a bid to keep the actual infection rate and death toll secret, Iranian officials have resorted to violence and subterfuge. Their efforts include enlisting U.S. allies in a campaign to weaken the Trump administration’s tough economic sanctions on the country, a move that could provide the regime with billions in cash.

The patients receive identical doses three or four more times per day, Dr. Weber explained. “The patients who received vitamin C did significantly better than those who did not get vitamin C,” Weber said.

“It helps a tremendous amount, but it is not highlighted because it’s not a sexy drug.” He explained that Coronavirus patients experience a significant drop in vitamin C levels if their bodies “overreact to the infection,” triggering a life-threatening condition called sepsis. “It makes all the sense in the world to try and maintain this level of vitamin C,” Weber said. Vitamin C is being “widely used” to treat Coronavirus patients throughout the Northwell Health system, a spokesman told the Post.
