Many, many years ago, I dated a Cajun woman, a fiery green-eyed red-head with an astounding skill to turn a colloquial phrase.
Maybe it was the translation from Creole French to English and the idiomatic nuances involved. It’s a subtlety I’ve noticed when the verb precedes the subject in other languages.
It initially sounded backward, but then, I never misunderstood or lost the intent. I derived today’s title from her comment when referring to the past.
She’d say – “it used to was.”
I appreciate the expressive economy in this style of phrasing. There is no confusion between the insect or the state of existence.
I’ve co-opted this phrase to mean – Has Been, as in, “a used to was.”
America was a superpower and the envy of the world, but beginning with the turn of this century, we reached the bottom of the barrel and started digging to go even lower. Our arrogance, ambivalence, and narcissism are the cause. It didn’t help when we traded the keys to the kingdom for some magic beans. A corporate leader for Bungles the Clown and his Clown Crew.
I endured Bungles the Clowns’ poorly penned rhetorical redress to Congress. His minions called it The State of the Union address – it was more like – The DemoSoc Wish List. He read it to some 37 million dumbstruck and befuddled worldwide viewers. That’s less than 16% of the eligible voters.
Does this have anything to do with his sterling performance so far?
Or are people tired of his whimsical and fantastical diversions?
I just love a good ‘Corn Pop’ story.
Rest assured that mega-power bosses waited anxiously for Bungles the Clown to invite China to take Taiwan and claim the South China Sea or North Korea to annex South Korea, much like he did with Russia and Ukraine. Bungles the Clown never mentioned The Islamic Caliphate of Iraquistan deal for a nukular power and weapons. Maybe, that, too, is still being negotiated.
I sat transfixed as Kackles, Bungles the Clowns’ sidekick, feigned interest, and the energetic antics of Nancy Pelosi as she portrayed a high school varsity cheerleader and a fly. Academy award performances they were not, but disingenuous, absolutely.
The sheer number of standing ovations was more reminiscent of a Catholic Pontifical High Mass than a presidential speech. Bungles the Clown’s writers inserted 91 applause-pause moments to sell this travesty as presidential. He was apparently late for an ice cream social, evidenced by his verbal obtrusions on the applause and chants of U-S-A U-S-A rushing to complete his script.
The content was typical Bungles the Clown covering the Democrat-Socialist Left’s talking points, backtracking on defunding the police, and skipping over the disasters his administration created. He affirmed that we need a robust southern border – like the one he dismantled with the stroke of his presidential pen just over a year ago. Any political neophyte could have predicted these recants of the Hate-Trump policies’ erasures. He did proposed amnesty for the millions of illegal immigrants, the guests he invited.
He’ll never actually close the border. He rationalizes his bungling border faux-pas selling this tsunami of immigrants as necessary cheap labor for unfilled American jobs.
Bungles the Clown will never admit that his vendetta to erase everything Trump put this country in the predicament we’re in today. Nor will he ever acknowledge the progressive left’s role in this disaster. In proper political form, it’s all someone else’s fault.
Bungles the Clown was at his bumbling best as he forgot that Kyiv is not in Iran, and the Ukrainians are proud – not sold by the pound. He stumbled and fumbled and mumbled his way through the script to ovation after ovation; Ninety-one in all. The politically pandering press gave him A+ for his message to be true to their brownnosing form.
I was embarrassed by this ‘used to was.’ But then, this is not my president and not my country anymore.
My America ‘used to was.’
His message was pointless. There were innuendos to his failures but nothing to reassure the country that we’re coming back. We’re sliding farther down the slippery slope of reckless, uncontrolled spending, eventually coming to rest in socialism and martial law.
My prediction for this country…
The economy will fail, and law enforcement will walk off the job in disgust shortly after the mid-term elections are stolen by the radical DemoSoc Left.
Read the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, but substitute America for Rome.
Bungles the Clown handed Russia the tools and funding needed to keep Europe on a very short leash. He gave Putin the Nordstrom Pipeline to extort billions of petrol-dollars from Europe. He gave the Empire of Evil $85B in high-tech weapons and Bagram airbase to rule the Middle East. According to Khaama, a US Senate report, if you can believe them, there are still as many as 9,000 US legal residents stranded in the Islamic Emirate of Iraquistan. I think it’s a little high, but who really knows? Our State Department certainly doesn’t.
It’s of particular interest that this and all preceding incidents were silenced by more pressing power grabs and concocted emergencies like the ‘panic’ (pandemic), blow-up America’s economic spending bill, the January 6th insurrection trial… and the list goes on. These blunders and more, are complex contrived obfuscations to bury the calamities of this administrative recklessness.
Americans have a memory problem. More realistically, we’re programmed not to remember – oh look, a puppy… The news cycle is about 24 hours, and in that time, the deluge of stories becomes overwhelming. No one can track all of this information or make sense of it. Yet, the politically partisan press bombards us with baseless petty insinuations and manipulated messages.
We should send special thanks to the Clinton Political Machine for greasing the news cycles with malicious and mendacious legal sidesteps and shuffles as they evade prosecution for treason. The Clintons keep the country distracted with their blended versions of Greek Tragedy and Slapstick politics.
I understand Hillary asked to join the Communist party with Hanoi Jane, but they refused her as too radical and unpredictable; she joined the DemoSoc Left.
The State of the Union speech confirmed that we are no longer free but subjects of the government. The lies and theater are necessary devices to distract and erase the previous colossal blunders and convince us that everything is fine. We should be proud to live in the greatest country on earth with Bungles the Clown and the Puppet in Chief.
We’re subjects, not citizen-participants.
I’ve listed the failures of this administration too many times, and I don’t want to rehash them. It serves no real purpose because they are no longer relevant or essential at the current rate of decline. The burlesque is progressing at the speed of stink. Slow enough to be recognized, but from an indistinguishable location or direction.
The ‘Earth First’ and ‘New Green Deal’ coalitions have us programmed to accept that electric vehicles and alternative ‘green energy’ will save the planet and lower dependence on fossil fuels. The available data and the science to support their assertions are accessible on all honest and forthright interweb government and corporate partner sources.
Remember, Lincoln warned us not to trust the Internet…
Here’s an interesting tidbit the Green-Movement avoid – China mines and distributes most of the rare-earth metals used to manufacture electric vehicles and the batteries that power them. AND, oh, by the way, fossil fuels generate the electricity that charges the vehicles; only 14% of it comes from unreliable renewable sources.
Here’s a 5-minute video that explains my point. Electric Cars
Here’s a list of eleven shorts on Renewable Energy.
An old Jewish man went to his Rabbi and asked…
Rabbi, why do you always answer my questions with another question?
The Rabbi replied…Do I do that?
Should we expect truth from our government? Why shouldn’t we? The most inappropriate sidestep is
“It involves national security…”
“It’s on a need-to-know basis.”
“Oh look, a pandemic…”
Why don’t the citizen need to know?
Are you hiding something?
The painfully obvious answer is YES!
Yes, they are hiding something?
Why do you lie to your spouse or significant other?
Why do you lie to your boss?
Why do you lie to your friends?
Is it because you have something to hide?
My new opinion of Bungles the Clown is that he doesn’t know the answers. Even though countless hours of preparation and grooming go into every public appearance, He doesn’t know. He can’t remember. Even when he sees it on the teleprompter, it doesn’t register. Bungles the Clown is what the progressive left – the DemoSocs – wanted for the leader of the free world.
Bungles the Clown is the human auto-pen. He signs everything the radical left put before him. He doesn’t care. It’s what he’s told to do.
The most heartbreaking thing I have ever witnessed is watching my father – A Proud Marine Corps Drill Instructor, wither away from Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Toward the end of his life, he didn’t recognize any family except my wife. I see the same signs in Bungles the Clown.
The Progressive Left DemoSocs should all be charged with elder abuse. His entire staff and that worthless doctor – his wife – should also be charged.
Jefferson said – we get the government we deserve.
I thought I’d earned a little bit more than this…

~ The Author ~
Charles R. Dickens was born in 1951, is a veteran of the Vietnam war, for which he volunteered, and the great-great grandson of the noted author, whose name he shares.
He is a fiercely proud American, who still believes this is the greatest country on the planet, with which we’ve lost control and certainly our direction. He grew up in moderate financial surrounding; were not rich by any stretch, but didn’t go hungry – his incredibly hard working father saw to that. As most from that era, he learned about life from his father, whose story would take too long to tell, other than to say that, he is also a fiercely proud American; a WWII and Korean war, veteran Marine.
Charlie was educated in the parochial system which, demanded that you actually learn something, and have capability to retain it before you advance. He attended several universities in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree, and chased the goose further to a master’s, and has retained some very definite ideas about education in this country.
In addition, Charlie is a retired blues guitar and vocalist – a musician. This was his therapy career. Nothing brings him as much joy as playing music, and he wishes that he could make a living at it… but alas… life goes on!
That’s Charlie… a proud, opinionated, and passionate American.
