Do I have your attention?
Since you are here, answer this next question: when was the last time you read The Declaration Of Independence? Back in the days of grammar school for the ‘all school play’ put on for the parents? Or did you get Abraham Lincoln’s line of ‘Four score and seven years ago’ and miss out entirely on memorizing the opening line to the second paragraph of the Declaration? For those whom have misplaced their pocket copy, or possibly gave it away (kudos if you have), or your Google is inoperative, here it is again for you:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
But wait! That’s the second paragraph. As brilliant as the opening line to it is, I want us to look back up towards the top, just below the title, to the first paragraph. For those unable to follow along with a printed copy, here you go:
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
What does it mean? Simply put, it says our Founding Fathers had issues with the then present King of Great Britain and they created a written redress of grievances. The Declaration of Independence is a shining example of the First Amendment at work…[the right] to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Why Did We Separate?
If you continue reading the second paragraph (or even if you don’t, you’re about to read it here) it tells of the Why’s of our Founding Fathers.
That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it…Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient cause; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evil are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursiuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security…
As Americans, patriots, and like-minded people gather, talk and support the nation’s founding documents, we can easily see why…many can relate to the pains felt by our Founding Fathers. Does it mean they all want to abolish the government or overthrow it? Absolutely NOT. What is does mean is precisely what I’ve highlighted in the original text. It is our right, it is our duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for our future security. Alter it, not overthrow it. Think of a reset button, if you will…
Next: The Grievances Then And The Grievance Now
So, let’s take The Declaration of Independence and compare the grievances our Founding Fathers had and compare them to those that ‘we the people’ could apply pertaining to our current government now and let Facts be submitted to a candid world.
Then: He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
Now: The government refuses to implement many current laws and Constitutional rights, which protect and serve for the public good.
Then: He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
Now: The government repeatedly has called short session, has been unyielding to the floor, due inability to function as elected officials by the people, for the people.
Then: He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
Now: The government has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people relinquish a portion of their Constitutional rights, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
Then: He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiquing them into compliance with his measures.
Now: The government has called together, on many occasions, for vote on legislation and repetitively voted on the same bills until the desired result was achieved, forcing many elected officials to change their vote.
Then: He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
Now: The government has shut down, several times, due to failure to meet together and civilly reach agreements.
Then: He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
Now: The government, after such shut downs, has caused the People at large to be exposed to risks of invasion; further burdening the People to pay the expenses out-of-pocket for protections, creating a multiple payment by the People in taxes and needs the government refused to supply; turning a blind-eye to domestic terrorism towards those against their opinion.
Then: He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
Now: The government has endeavoured to allow illegal immigration of these States; for that purpose ignoring the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to hold others to encourage their illegal migrations hither, and freeing conditions to illegal immigrants of government services paid for by American citizens.
Then: He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
Now: The government has obstructed the Constitution, by refusing to protect the rights of the People with their creation and passing of Unconstitutional Laws; caused the People to defend them in Supreme Court.
Then: He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
Now: The government has blocked and challenged newly appointed Judges, on their will alone, for the purpose of controlling the Justices in their own favor.
Then: He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
Now: The government has erected a multitude of New Offices [CIA, FBI, etc.], and send Agents to harass our people, and strip them of their freedoms.
Then: He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
Now: The government officials keep among us, in times of peace, generating falsehoods and pushing them as fact; indoctrinating our youth by threatening the removal of educational funding if their standards and limitations are not met.
Then: He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
Now: The People cannot trust the government will not use its Military against them, in a time of Standing United, without force.
Then: He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Act of pretended Legislation.
Now: The government has combined themselves with others to subject us to jurisdiction foreign to our Constitution, and in ignorance to our laws; giving their own false legislation that goes against the Constitution and agreeing to only their own.
Then: For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us.
Now: For passing Unconstitutional laws and the use of Unconstitutional Offices to enforce them on the People.
Then: For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States.
Now: The government has overstepped their own authorities, invading and causing death to Inhabitants of these States defending their Constitutional Rights and Lands; and receiving little to no punishment for such acts.
Then: For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world.
Now: For poor Trade agreements which take opportunities from the States; restricting the empowering of themselves and provide for ourselves.
Then: For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent.
Now: For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent.
Then: For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits by Trial by Jury.
Now: For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits by Trial by Jury, with excessive use of government force, to the point of loss of life of those they wished to charge.
Then: For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences.
Now: For stripping us of our freedoms to be tried for false offenses.
Then: For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighboring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies.
Now: For ignoring our own Laws and allowing the use of neighboring Province laws for use within our Boundaries so as to render it an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these United States.
Then: For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments.
Now: For infringing upon our Constitutional rights, threatening abolishment of our most valuable Laws, and altering the functionality of the Forms of our Governments.
Then: For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
Now: For suspending and blocking our own Legislatures, and declaring their own with the power to legislate for us without our consent.
Then: He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
Now: The government has taken on sides, allowing one side the freedoms of domestic terrorism and other to keep within Laws and suffer with the People under the tyrannical acts of the other.
Then: He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
Now: The government has plundered our rights, opened our borders, violated our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
Then: He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolution and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy of Head of a civilized nation.
Now: The government at this time allowing large convoys of foreign migrants to invade and perform criminal acts including death, dissolution and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy paralleled to those in our nation’s creation, and totally unworthy of Head of a civilized nation.
Then: He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
Now: The government has been slowly stripping Citizens of their right to bear Arms in their Country, picking away their ability to defend themselves against domestic terrorism, and putting the Citizens at risk of falling themselves.
Then: He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.
Now: The government has excited domestic insurrections among us, and has endeavored to bring on the neighboring countrymen, the cartels, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished violation and destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.
In Closing The Declaration
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince [read “government”] whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler [read government body] of a free people.
A well written passage in the closing of the redress of grievances, and applies today with only the couple minor tweaks to the text.
Think About It
Now think about this for a moment, or maybe longer and really let it sink in. We just took the original Declaration Of Independence, which was created to establish the government we now have, and inserted fairly parallel arguments into each complaint against that same government they created. So what does that tell me? Well, it tells me somewhere along the route to today, we lost a firm grip on the government and they have begun to swing out of our control…a control we the people should have, and yet don’t. Much like our Founding Fathers, we have given a number of petitions, and where have they gotten us?
We are making it official now.
Redress Of Grievances
If you haven’t read the Public Announcement post, then this will be news to you. In early November, November 8th to be exact an official ‘declaration’ of redress of grievances will be handed over in Washington, D.C. If you want your name on the petition style redress of grievances, attend if possible Nov 9th, and sign it to help aid in getting a Congressional hearing.
