Why Aren’t Schools Taking Bulling Seriously? My Child’s Story and the System That Failed Us

My 12-year-old came home sobbing last week after months of weight-shaming by classmates. The teacher’s “solution”? Forcing a hollow apology that only fueled more cruelty. When I demanded action, the vice principal shrugged: “Kids will be kids.”

But here’s the reality…

* Schools avoid suspensions (too costly, risks lawsuits) but offer no real alternatives like counseling or mentorship.

* Parents defend bullies — one mom told me her son “just jokes around” despite evidence.

* Teachers are overwhelmed: Our district cut behavioral staff last year.

I’ve filed reports, joined PTA meetings, even contacted a youth advocate – but progress? Zero.

Parents: How do you escalate when schools gaslight victims?

Any legal or community resources that actually work?
