The Hypocrisy of Racism in America

All my life, I’ve been perplexed by the fact that white people are the only people who are ever referred to as racists, when people of other skin-colors are just as guilty of what we call Racism. The following “speech” has been attributed to comedian and actor Michael Richards (well known for his role as Kramer on television’s “Seinfeld”) after he went on a “racial tirade” when heckled while onstage on November 17, 2006. It is said that this was the defense speech Mr. Richards gave in a court case related to his rant. However, I have managed to trace the origin of the document back to someone using the online-alias “junkhunter” who posted it in Google Groups on December 9, 2005, almost a year BEFORE Mr. Richards went on his rant. The original document has been hijacked and rewritten to some extent (parts added AND removed), but the basic message has remained intact. Regardless of its origin, it is an incredibly accurate description of racism in America. Here is the document, including not only all the original text, but also the additional text, altered slightly for easier reading ~ LS

There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etcetera, and then, apparently, there are just Americans…

You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me “White boy,” “Cracker,” “Honkey,” “Whitey,” “Caveman,” and even “The Man” and you think it’s okay, because it’s you saying it, not having it said to you. But when I call you, “Nigger,” “Spook,” “Coon,” “Kike,” “Towel-Head,” “Rag-Head,” “Sand-Nigger,” “Camel Jockey,” “Greaser,” “Beaner,” “Spic,” “Gook,” “Slope,” “Nip,” or “Chink,” you call me a racist.

You say that you want to make a change in this country. How? By protesting everything that we believe in? By trying to change everything that has made this country run fine for over two hundred years? You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you; so why are the inner-cities and ghettos the most dangerous places in the country to live?

You have the United Negro College Fund, but if we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships, you would call us racists. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Yom HaShoah. You have Ma’uled al-nabi. You have the NAACP. You have BET. If we had WET (White Entertainment Television), we’d be racists. If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists. If we had White History Month, we’d be racists. If we had any “whites only” organization to “advance” OUR lives, we’d be racists. When was the last time you saw “Reverend” Jessie Jackson involved with anything to do with white people? NEVER, and you never will, because he is a racist of the worst kind; one who is supposed to be a man of God.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that?

A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant, but any color woman can be in the Miss America pageant. There are over sixty openly proclaimed “Black Colleges” in the United States, yet if there were “White Colleges,” that would be racist. In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us the Ku Klux Klan.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow, and orange, and you’re not afraid to announce it, but when we announce our white pride, you call us racists. You call each other “niggas,” but when we call you that, you call us racists.

You rob us, car-jack us, and shoot at us, but, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

We work hard to preserve our history; you come along and try to rewrite it and to destroy our monuments to that history. We want a safe environment for our families and children; you want to bring the ghetto to our neighborhoods.

I am white. I am proud. I am an American. But, you call me a racist. Why is it that only whites can be racists? Don’t do reverse discrimination, take your own advice.

It has been said that everyone is a racist to some degree, whether you’re black, white, Asian, or green. I don’t know that I agree with that, but the fact remains that this is a never-ending fight; some people will always be racist, others will not, so learn to live with it, and rid yourselves of your hypocrisy.

So there it is. Take from it what you will. Personally, I’m white, but I don’t see skin color as a point of pride. I’m proud to be the man I am, a good man, and I hope, a righteous man; the kind of man my daddy raised me to be. I’m proud of my children, and the contributing members to society that they have become. I’m proud to be descended from the Celts of Scotland and Ireland, some of the fiercest warriors this planet has ever known. I take pride that my ancestors have fought many wars for freedom, three of those wars right here in this nation, before She was even a century old. I’m proud to be an American, a Southerner.

I am proud to be a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the descendant of Confederate soldiers, and an heir to the Confederacy. But that doesn’t make me a racist. It makes me a Human Being, just like everybody else in this world. There is no room in my heart for hate, especially hate that is based on the color of someone’s skin; I personally find the idea ridiculous, and founded in ignorance. A man, or woman, should be judged by their character, not the color of their skin. I practice what I preach. Do you?

We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The difference is your failure to comprehend the power imbalanc e here. the US and Canada have both been built for whites at the expense and sxploitation of blacks and browns. Everything, even the history taught in schools, the “holidays” you say whites don’t have are al built around a white British system outline. The differnece is brown people were displaced, killed and hunted so whites could have a comfortable country and now they feel abused by minorities groups that they have continued to treat as a lesser being. That is the difference. Whites are the majority with majority power and having that power comes with great responsibility that whites continue to abuse.

The person who had the one thought need to read a lot more about history, prior the establishment of the US and Canada. History tends to repeat its self and does not all-ways have do with race.

I think we’ve found the true hypocrite: White Americans who undermine the experience of POC. Nothing new, not surprised.
