Dwyer: The Threat Of Ideology

Liberal Policies FailThe ideology of American “Liberalism” threatens the well-being of our nation. Under the pretext of “improving” the social fabric of the country, it wrecks, one by one, the cornerstones of our freedom and prosperity. Not unlike in former Soviet Union and its satellites, it attempts to replace free markets, competition, and individual self-reliance with governmental control of the economy, central planning, and redistribution of income. Predictions of allegedly beneficial effects of that “Liberal” power grab on the American society are not that different from notoriously false promises of socialistic order. And not surprisingly so.

What was, perhaps, the most threatening aspect of socialism was the large number of otherwise normal individuals who submitted themselves almost unconditionally to the ideology they professed. It was that ideological individual submissiveness, referred by some to as a mental disease, that turned many variations of socialist ideology into advocacies of mass-murder machines. Stalin (a devout of Marxism-socialism), Hitler (a devout of national socialism) and Mao Zedong (a devout of communism) would not be able to commit their heinous, ideologically-motivated, genocidal crimes if it weren’t for tens of millions of submissive followers that those tyrants had.

American “Liberalism” belongs the same dangerous category as socialism. It poses a threat to free society not just because it attempts to restrict and, oftentimes, eliminate individual liberties in order to “liberate” the less successful from the results of their actions and behavioral patterns, but mainly because millions of American “Liberals” worship the ideology and accept its values as over-riding moral standards. It matters to them not that those values, when imposed on the entire nation, result in absurdities and social pathologies, pre-emption of fruits of work of the productive individuals, and cancerous growth of oppressive government. It matters to them not that they are rewarding failure and punishing success on a large scale. It matters to them not, that they are slowly but steadily wrecking our once most free and most accomplished nation and pushing it onto the path of economic downturn. The only thing, it seems, that matters to them is that they are making “progress” in implementation of their “Liberal” ideas. And this ideological submissiveness makes them a real threat to our Republic.

The majority of Americans may have their strong religious believes, but they are, by and large, ideology-free. They do not believe that ideology is a solution of the socio-economic problems that they deal with. They do not believe in submitting their natural sense of right and wrong to unproven ideological constrains. What they do believe are their inalienable rights to life, liberty, and property, and, perhaps, the most fundamental right to be left alone when they pursue their happiness as they see it fit. Their prevailingly common desire to be free from governmental intrusion is a common denominator of their attachments to their individual rights confirmed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. And that desire is the single most basic reason why they resist the sustained attempts by “Liberal” elite and its collaborators to impose the ideology on inhabitants of what once was the home of the brave and the land of the free.

Calling that common desire to be free and left alone an “ideology” is equally absurd and deceitful as calling atheism a “religion“, which they are not.

This asymmetry between the ideological Left (that includes American “Liberals”) and anti-ideological non-Left explains why “Liberalism” entrenched itself so deeply in the structures of American political power despite the fact that only one fourth of American voters describe themselves as “Liberal”. The ideology that the “Liberals” submitted themselves to unites them as the prevailing political force that is maneuvering the entire nation into a neo-socialistic trap. That force is intrinsically assertive and is not interested in any coexistence or bipartisanship with the majority that resists “Liberal” march towards the monopoly of power. And every success the “Liberals” achieve in this march to power motivates them to become even more aggressive in their assaults on the American Republic as we know it.

Note: There is an engineered confusion regarding the Left-Right false dichotomy. In particular, fascism (also known as neo-socialism) and national socialism have been falsely classified as the “Right” or “far Right”, as if Mussolini and Hitler were conservative extremists who wanted to preserve the societies that their followers thoroughly remade. The only beneficiaries, it seems, of that engineered confusion are the Left-wing ideologues who, for obvious reasons, try to distance themselves these days from pathological forms of socialism and the disasters that they have caused.
